What is literacy

Literacy is defined as the ability to read and write. That was something that few years ago was not common in our society. Most of the people where illiterate and that was a huge problem.

Nowadays, things has change. In the society we live, it is extremely important to be literate, if not is hard to become part of the sociey because you have to be able to read and to write, as you use it in everydays life. Being able to read and write means being able to keep up with social events, communicate effectively and understand what is happening around you!

Literacy development has to be carried between home and school. Some things we can do to make out students literate is to:

    1. Encourage reading

Reading is the most important thing of literacy so we have to encourage our students to read as much as they can and to create a reading habit. They could read newspapers, films, books...

    2. Discuss texts together

Discuss what they have read encourages learners to think deeply about the ideas that where in the text. We have to make literary conversations about the texts or books we read.

    3. Write your ideas!

Other way to make students develop their literacy is to make them write what they thought about a theme they like!
